Message from Executive Director
Dr. Sarah Ott
I would like to welcome you to the San Diego Unified School District (SDUSD). I am glad that your family is going to be part of our wonderful school community at SDUSD.
My passion for students began when I was in high school. I regularly visited a specialized school to shadow a physical therapist and learn about his interactions with students with intensive support needs. As I began to get to know each and every student their unique gifts and talents continued to impress me. I noticed how all students want to be loved, have fun, become friends and enjoy life. This experience steered my choice to major in special education. I have worked as a paraprofessional, moderate/severe special education teacher, Vice Principal, Principal and now the Executive Director. Throughout my journey my vision has been clear. Students receiving special education services deserve to be educated in the least restrictive environment with the accommodations and modifications they warrant.
Our district goal is to provide support to all students when they need it, where they need it and how they need it. Our vision is that all schools will recognize that students requiring special education services are an equal part of their school community and we will create a culture of belonging for them by providing educational access and meaningful opportunities; equal to those of their non-disabled peers. We are continually improving outcomes for all students and that includes students receiving special education services.
Sincerely,
Sarah Ott Ed.D.
