Level Up

Q: What is Level Up?

A: San Diego Unified has once again partnered with the San Diego Foundation to provide enrichment programs for current district student grades UTK through eighth grade.

Programs grades UTK through eighth will vary and may include:

      Outdoor & Nature

      Sports & Fitness

      Art & Music

      Dance

      Reading & Writing

      STEM/STEAM

More detailed information regarding programs, locations, and times are available on the district’s Level Up Enrichment website.

Q: Is Level Up the same as the enrichment programs?

A: Yes. You may hear the district speak about the enrichment programs offered during the summer. The district is referring to the Level Up Enrichment summer program.

Q: How do I enroll my student in Level Up Enrichment?

A: Students who met the Priority 1 (P1) criteria received priority registration on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Districtwide registration opened on May 13, 2024, on a first-come, first-served basis. It is recommended for families to view the InPlay informative video for helpful tips on enrolling your student(s). Spots are limited. 

Families received a text message on May 13 with the link to enroll from InPlay.

Q: How do I determine if my student meets the P1 criteria?

A: Under the California Department of Education Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) grant requirements and district priority areas, students who meet at least one of the following criteria will be given priority registration (P1):

      Multilingual (English Language Learner)

      Free or reduced-price meal eligibility

      Homeless/foster youth

      Students with disabilities (IEP or 504)

      Siblings of students with the above criteria at the same school

Q: Will I be notified if my student has received admission to the Level Up program?

A: P1 families received a text message the week of April 8 with Level Up enrollment information from InPlay, along with an invitation to enroll their student(s).

Districtwide families received a text message on May 13 from InPlay with the link to enroll their student(s).

Q: What is InPlay

A: InPlay will be the registration portal for Level Up enrichment programs. InPlay will initiate registration by sending a unique web-based link via text message for each student to the cell phone number listed in PowerSchool. Please ensure your student’s PowerSchool profile has your updated cell number in the cell phone field.

Q: How can I make sure my current cell number is in PowerSchool?

A: Please contact your current school site to ensure each of your currently enrolled student’s cell phone number in PowerSchool is up-to-date.

Q: I’m not receiving text messages regarding the Level Up Enrichment programs. What should I do? 

A: Contact your current school to ensure your cell phone number is up-to-date.

Q: I get so many spam texts. How do I ensure that I don’t delete a Level up text message?

A: Below is a sample text message your will receive in InPlay:

Q: What if I opted out of receiving text messages from InPlay?

A: Families who previously opted out of receiving text messages from InPlay can text the word “START” to 619-514-2484. Standard data rates may apply.

Q: What are the locations of the Level Up enrichment programs?

A: The first five weeks of programming will be offered at 49 district school sites. The last four weeks of programming, July 15 through August 9, will be offered off-site with local nonprofit partners. To view the school sites, please click here.

Q: What is the deadline to enroll in the Level Up (enrichment) program?

A: Students who met the Priority 1 (P1) criteria received priority registration beginning Monday, April 8, 2024.

Districtwide registration opened on May 13, 2024, on a first-come, first-served basis. Enrollment is open until filled. There is limited capacity. 

There is no deadline to enroll in the Level Up enrichment programs, however, programs will not show as available once their seat capacity has been reached. Each seat capacity will vary program-to-program.

Q: Is the Level Up enrichment program available to all grade levels?

A: Yes, all currently enrolled UTK-8 students may participate in the Level up program.

Q: Is Level Up enrichment enrollment priority given to the summer academic attendees?

A: No. However, students who met the Priority 1 (P1) criteria were offered priority registration beginning April 8, 2024 for Level Up.

Q: Does signing up for the academic summer program guarantee a spot in the Level Up enrichment program?

A: The district is unable to guarantee a spot in the Level Up enrichment program. However, students who met the Priority 1 (P1) criteria were offered priority registration beginning April 8, 2024 for Level Up.

Q: Is my student required to be enrolled in the PrimeTime summer program to participate in the Level Up enrichment program?

A: No. Enrollment in the PrimeTime summer program is not required to participate in the Level Up enrichment program. 

Q: Does the Level Up enrichment program run five days a week?

A: Most programs will run five days a week with differing start and end times. Please note that not every program across all grade levels will be a five day a week program. Before registering your student, please be sure to look at the program schedule to ensure it fits the needs of your student and your family.

Q: What are the hours of Level Up enrichment programs?

A: Hours vary depending on the program your student is participating in.

Q: Are the Level Up enrichment programs full day or part time?

A: Both options will be available. Before registering your student, please be sure to look at the program schedule to ensure it fits the needs of your student and your family.

Q: Can I enroll my student in both the summer academic program and Level Up enrichment?

A: Yes. However, please ensure program times do not overlap.

Q: Does my child need to be enrolled in the summer academic program to be able to participate in the Level Up Enrichment program?

A: No. You can just enroll your student in the Level Up Enrichment program.

Q: Can I enroll my student in multiple Level Up enrichment camps?

A: Yes. Families have the option to enroll their student(s) in a maximum of three program sessions. It is important to note that the dates and times of these sessions should not coincide with any other summer programs.

Q: Does each of the school sites offer the same Level Up enrichment programs or do the program offerings vary?

A: Programs will vary. 

Q: What if my student needs accommodation or 504 supports for enrichment activities?

A: Please contact the program provider directly to arrange for support. The program provider contact information should be included in the message you received confirming enrollment in the program.

Q: Who can I contact with additional questions?

A: Families can visit the Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) website for additional information or call the ELO office at 858-810-7310 during office hours, Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The ELO department is hosting virtual (Zoom) family office hours every Tuesday, from 4 to 4:30 p.m. These sessions are exclusively for families with currently enrolled district students.
