On June 23, 2020, the board adopted a Resolution in the Matter of Supporting a Call for Freedom Summer 2020 and focus on eliminating those barriers that prevent our students of color from receiving an equitable education. On July 21, 2020, selected student leaders co-presented a workshop focused on the issue of racial justice and equity. Students shared their lived experiences in our district. The board approved staff recommendations to strengthening the district's key strategies in achieving racial justice and equity, with an emphasis on student voice as we build anti-racist and restorative school communities. Each month staff will provide with an update on the implementation of the approved recommendations in the following areas:
*Staff Diversity
*Implementation of Ethnic Studies for All Students
*Interrupting Discriminatory Grading Practices
*Dismantling Discriminatory Discipline Policies and Practices
*Building Anti-Racist and Restorative School Communities
The purpose of the Independent Citizens' Oversight Committee (ICOC) on Racial Justice and Equity is to monitor and review the District's efforts to achieve racial justice and equity.
