N95 Mask Shipments Coming

San Diego Unified Delivering more than 112,000 N95 and KF94 Masks for Students and Educators
Posted on 01/07/2022

San Diego Unified continues to invest heavily on safety measures to make schools as safe as possible for everyone as we navigate the uncertainties of this global health crisis.

Teachers, administrators, students and school support staff can look forward to a brand-new shipment of more than 112,000 N95 and KF94 masks coming to their schools this week. Additionally, the district’s delivery drivers continually deliver daily boxes of disposable surgical masks and reusable masks when requested.

We want to remind our employees and school families that our mask mandate for all schools and district properties remains in place.  Now more than ever, with omicron being highly contagious, it is very important that an appropriate mask is worn at all times, unless eating outside.

Cloth masks alone are not as effective as other options, although they are still allowed. Better options are surgical masks, which have a nose wire, or a surgical mask in combination with a cloth mask. If wearing two masks, wear a surgical mask (paper disposable) under the cloth mask. Two surgical masks should not be combined as they are not designed to fit tightly, and N95 masks should never be combined with any other mask.

The most protective masks are N95 masks or masks of that style, including KN95 and KF94 masks. This style mask will be offered and available at all sites. Please note that especially for children, these types of masks may be difficult to wear for long periods of time as they may be uncomfortable. It is better to wear a surgical mask properly than to frequently remove an uncomfortable N95-like mask or to wear the N95 mask improperly.

Our number one priority remains the health and safety of our students, staff and school community.
